Weapons charge follows high-risk warrant raid in Northeast Minneapolis
By Crime Watch MN, May 24, 2022
We posted Friday about a high-risk warrant that was executed early morning in Northeast Minneapolis on the 30 block of 16th Avenue Northeast at a residence near the Mississippi river.
Photos relayed to Crime Watch Minneapolis from a nearby resident showed FBI agents present along with a SWAT vehicle. (We were asked not to publicly share the photos for the resident’s privacy).
Jail records show Marque Deandre Flax, 32, was booked into custody following the incident on probable cause weapons and several warrants.
On Monday morning Flax was charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Charges say Flax shot another person in Minneapolis on May 15 during which he was also shot in the leg but did not seek treatment. Police executed the judicially authorized warrant at the 16th Avenue Northeast residence as part of their investigation into the shooting in an attempt to locate and arrest Flax.
Flax was found to have a gunshot wound to the leg when he exited the residence during the warrant search.
Inside the residence, police found several handguns and an AR-15 rifle. Police also found medical supplies, including a wheelchair and crutches, which they believed Flax had been using to treat his own gunshot wound.
Flax has a prior felony conviction on terroristic threats prohibiting him from possessing firearms. Flax has other convictions including gross misdemeanor and felony convictions for carrying a pistol without a permit. Most recently, Flax received a stay of imposition on the felony-level conviction and was placed on probation. Flax also has convictions for domestic assault and fifth degree assault.
Flax also has several other pending cases and/or warrants including another case in Hennepin County in which he’s charged with two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
Bail is set at $150,000 on the new weapons charge and Flax remained in custody as of Monday evening awaiting his first scheduled court appearance on Tuesday, May 24.
There was no mention made in the criminal complaint of where the May 15 shooting occurred or if charges are anticipated against Flax for the incident. We posted about shots fired and then a shooting shortly afterward in southeast Minneapolis on Sunday May 15 in the 11 o’clock hour. We don’t have information at the moment on whether those incidents may be related to Flax.
Follow us here and on Twitter as we will continue to follow up for any charges that may be added for other incidents.
