Another deadly weekend has kicked off in Minneapolis with two homicides within hours of each other late Thursday and into Friday morning.

We reported late Thursday just before midnight that police were dispatched to a report of a shooting on the 2200 block of James Avenue North.

Police dispatch at the time indicated that the shooting may have been between family members.

MPD updated in an overnight release that an adult male had died at the scene, and that preliminary information indicated they were shot by a family member inside the residence. Homicide number 29 for the city this year.

Friday afternoon, the Medical Examiner identified the decedent as Dan Vang, 38. Booking records show that Fong Vang, 40 is in custody on probable cause murder, below.

The second shooting we reported took place just after 8:30 a.m. Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Emerson Avenue North initially on a Shotspotter activation. The call was immediately updated by the dispatcher to a shooting.

When police arrived, they found apparent suspects still on scene who then attempted to flee, described on dispatch as a male and a female.

As police attempted to apprehend the suspects, they called out over the air that the suspects were continuing to fire shots, which could also be heard over the air. LISTEN: https://voca.ro/1aGd49IbqtKV

Once suspects were in custody, officers on site aired that police had not fired shots in the incident, and they said there were no additional injuries as a result of the continued gunfire.

Late Friday afternoon, MPD released a statement confirming that an adult male had died in the shooting, calling it homicide number 30 for the city. MPD said that two suspects had been taken into custody, a male and female. Bookings had not yet been updated at the time of this report.
