This is not an anomaly; this is our system

Nathan John Boswell, 01/01/1994, of Fridley.
1/
This is a criminal we’ve been keeping tabs on since early 2020 when he was involved in a multi-city/county flee, squad ramming, attempted carjacking, auto theft, and more fleeing — all in one incident.
2/
BTW, Boswell ultimately only faced charges in one of the multitude of crimes committed during that spree. We’ll get back to that later…
3/
Boswell has at least 30 prior convictions, including at least 12 felonies since 2015. When he was finally sentenced to prison, he was allowed to serve nearly all of the felony sentences concurrently.
4/
On Boswell’s first felony conviction on the violent crime of first-degree burglary (home invasion), @MN Courts were all like, “let’s hug it out, bro,” and spun him out the door with time served in jail.
Hennepin County Judge Jay Quam.
5/
Mind you, Boswell had several convictions prior to his first felony conviction. But hugs all around.
Ope… wait, 8 months later, Boswell was charged in another violent crime of first-degree aggravated robbery. At sentencing, he was allowed to serve the burglary conviction concurrently with the aggravated robbery sentence.
6/
Upon release from prison, Boswell nearly immediately returned to acts of crime and was charged with a new felony of check forgery/intent to defraud.
Of course, it’s time for big hugs again and a stern talking-to. Boswell’s 13-month sentence was stayed.
Judge George Stephenson.
7/
Not five months later, Boswell was racking up more charges:
Theft, dangerous weapons, drug paraphernalia
And more charges: Fleeing, theft
And then came the crime spree (at top) for which he ultimately only faced a simple robbery charge for the attempted carjacking.
8/
Boswell was charged with several other felonies in a separate case related to the crime spree, including two counts of first-degree damage to property, fleeing in a vehicle, and DWI, but all of the charges in that case were ultimately dismissed as part of a plea deal in the attempted carjacking case. Numerous other charges and cases were also dismissed as part of the plea deal (below).
However, after being charged in the attempted carjacking and the fleeing case, Boswell was released on ZERO bail in both cases.
9/
You guessed it, Boswell continued to rack up numerous other felony cases and charges while out on zero-bail release, including: multiple fleeing; multiple theft; stolen property; threats of violence; second-degree assault; fourth-degree assault; and multiple auto theft.
Boswell was eventually convicted in several of the cases late last year and early this year but was allowed to serve all of the felony sentences concurrently.
10/
In total, Boswell was sentenced to 193 months in prison (16 years) in nine felony cases covering five counties.
However, with credit for time previously served in jail and in combination with Minnesota’s two-thirds rule which only requires offenders to serve two-thirds of their sentence incarcerated, Boswell was already out of custody on Nov 8, 2022, in ALL NINE OF THE CASES.
#MNmath: 193 months = about 12 months
11/
Boswell is now in custody after being arrested Thursday evening as a WANTED FUGITIVE.
A warrant had been issued for Boswell’s arrest three days after being released from prison.
Boswell is also holding on a probable cause charge of receiving stolen property. We’ll update if/when a new charge is filed, but we’re guessing he was arrested in a stolen vehicle.
This story is not an anomaly. This is our Minnesota Court system.
Follow this thread on Twitter for updates on any new charges.
