Just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Crime Watch reported that the Minneapolis Fire Department was responding to a structure fire on the 4000 block of Garfield Avenue South. Several 911 callers reported black smoke coming from the residence.

Dispatch audio at the time captured the incident commander (IC) airing that other responders should avoid 38 to 39th on Garfield due to a vehicle stuck in the road. Upon arrival at the address on Garfield, the IC also warned responders to use discretion due to “crappy traction out here.”

A follower later submitted photos from the scene that showed Garfield Avenue South at the location of the fire, which appeared virtually unplowed nearly 60 hours after snow began falling.

The City of Minneapolis delayed calling a Snow Emergency to clear roads until two days into the winter storm that reportedly dumped about 15 inches in the city.

However, the follower also sent a photo from adjacent West 40th Street which showed a perfectly plowed bike lane, albeit with zero bike tire tracks visible on the pristinely plowed path.

West 40th is also a marked snow emergency route which was plowed overnight Wednesday to Thursday at the start of the two-day delayed Snow Emergency.

Priorities, y’all.
