Automatic gunfire rang out in Uptown Minneapolis late Monday night that left “more than one hundred casings” and a person shot, according to police dispatch audio and several reports received by Crime Watch from people in the area.

Crime Watch posted that police first reported hearing “a large volley of gunshots” in the Uptown Minneapolis area just before 10:30 p.m.

Crime Watch nearly immediately began receiving direct messages about the shots from people in the area:

“No clue what the f just happened but heard an inane amount of gunfire exchange,” one person said.

Another message stated, “Massive volley of automatic gunfire in Uptown just now, TONS of shots.”

Several squads responded to the area and eventually found a crime scene near West Lake Street and Fremont Avenue South.

Police aired over dispatch that the former Target building had sustained “a lot of damage” from gunfire as well as a nearby apartment building and at least one vehicle.

A short time later, at least one person showed up at HCMC who had been shot. The person was reported to be uncooperative with giving details to officers who responded to the hospital, but information over dispatch indicated that the person had been shot at the Uptown location.

Several others from the area contacted Crime Watch in private messages with photos, videos, and more information.

One person said, “There’s crime scene tape all around the entrance to Walkway apartments in Uptown, and Lake St is completely closed.”

Another person on site said, “Shit show. Some shooters may have been partying on the Revel building patio. Left behind paraphernalia and drug scales. More than one hundred casings and bullet fragments on a two-block stretch of Lake Street. Cameras around here caught one car with a visible gunman. Mobile crime lab just arrived.”

The same person said, “Yellow [evidence] cards go up to 80, then single letters, then double; at least 110 evidence markers.”
