Two people were shot in Minneapolis’ Loring Park neighborhood overnight leaving one dead. The killing marks the city’s 40th homicide this year, the fourth homicide in a week for Minneapolis and the second homicide in a week for the same neighborhood.

Police were responding to a report of shots fired in the area Saturday about 3:17 a.m. when they received a new report of a possible shooting. Police arrived to find a male in a black Cadillac Escalade with Illinois license plates who they said wasn’t breathing, according to dispatch audio.

Several minutes later, police were notified that another vehicle had shown up at Hennepin County Medical Center containing a gunshot victim and three others. It was later determined that the victim at the hospital was related to the same shots fired incident at 15th and Nicollet Avenue.

A police camera operator later stated that the shooting itself wasn’t captured on camera, but may have happened closer to 15th and Lasalle Avenue, and the Escalade rolled to Nicollet Avenue.

Police reported to dispatch at the time that the victim at 15th and Nicollet had a gun in his lap. Police at the hospital also reported to dispatch that a gun was recovered from that vehicle with the other victim.

Minneapolis police updated later Saturday morning that the male at the scene had died as a result of his injuries, and the male who was privately transported to the hospital suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No other details about the victims were made available. The Medical Examiner will be expected to release the identity of the decedent at a later date.

Four homicides in a week

We reported that another man was shot in the Loring Park neighborhood early Sunday just after midnight after police reported hearing shots in the area. A 34-year-old male died as a result of the shooting on the 1400 block of Willow Street, which was the city’s 38th homicide this year.

A week ago, on Saturday June 4, a 29-year-old male was killed in a shooting just before 10 p.m. near the 2600 block of Cedar Avenue, the city’s 37th homicide.

The city’s 39th homicide occurred on Thursday evening when a male in his 30s was killed in a barrage of automatic gunfire on the 1800 block of Sheridan Avenue North. The city’s Shotspotter technology recorded over 70 rounds being fired in the incident.

No arrests have been announced in any of this week’s four homicides.
