Boarded windows at Black Sheep in the North Loop — Minneapolis (submitted)

A business burglary was discovered in the North Loop neighborhood of downtown Minneapolis early Tuesday morning, and the suspect was reportedly discovered inside unconscious and lying in a pool of their own vomit.

The call was dispatched to police about 6:30 a.m. reporting a burglary at Black Sheep Coal fired Pizza, 600 Washington Avenue North. The dispatcher said windows were reported to be broken and added that the suspect was reportedly inside the business unconscious in their own vomit. No squad was immediately available to be dispatched.

EMS and Rescue (MFD) were added to the call for the suspect. The MFD dispatcher stated further information saying that the 911 caller said they removed a board from prior damage and that the person inside unconscious was the manager of a nearby restaurant.

Dispatches indicated that both EMS and Rescue arrived to the scene. Rescue was reportedly waved off by EMS close to 7 a.m. It’s unclear whether EMS found a person inside.

No squad was dispatched to the call until 7:45 a.m., at which time the dispatcher stated that the suspect was gone from the scene. A sergeant informed the dispatcher that a window at the business had been reported broken just after midnight. The assigned squad finally made contact with business staff just before 8 a.m., noting that a board had been removed from the business window.

A Crime Watch follower sent later pictures of the shattered and then re-boarded window observed Tuesday morning.

Black Sheep later posted on their Facebook page saying they would be closed for the day but didn’t offer any details.

No further information could be gleaned from the dispatches.

We will update this post if we can learn any more about what transpired with the “suspect.”

UPDATE: A person who says they represent the business posted a public statement on our post that said no one was found inside the building, and that the info may have been told to 911 by an unreliable source:

“Hello, as a representative of Black Sheep Coal Fired Pizza, I would just like to clarify that the information stating that there was a person iside of the building unconscious and lying in their own vomit came from an unrelable source and there has been no evidence to point to that being a true statement.

We appreciate the public's concern and would like to assure everyone that our staff is our main priority at this point. We are doing everything we can to keep them safe and move forward. We trust that investigators are doing all they can to determine who committed this act. Please feel free to direct any inquiries or information regarding this incident to contact@blacksheeppizza.com.”

We also heard from a witness who saw some of this unfold early this morning. They suggested that the person who removed the board may not be associated with the business. The witness said the board was removed by a person who looked inside but then walked away. The person then returned and entered the building, according to the witness, but was again seen leaving and walking away after a short time. That witness said they passed the information to arriving fire fighters.

This story continues to develop.
