Davion Lazarick Gaines and the MN Courts judge and prosecutor who aided and abetted him

By Crime Watch MN, Feb 21, 2023

City, county, and state authorities and elected representatives continue to bemoan “gun violence” and propose extreme and specious gun control bills all while Minnesota prosecutors, judges, and courts continue to spin gun criminals out the revolving door with zero consequences.

Davion Lazarick Gaines, 06/17/2002, was charged with shooting up the Minneapolis 4th Precinct with a machine gun in July 2022. LISTEN to the gunshot audio as part of our thread at the time of the incident.

At the time Gaines was charged, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman faux huffed and puffed and said, “Reckless gun use will not be tolerated.”

[Narrator voice] Pssst, it will be tolerated.

Under the terms of a plea deal offered to Gaines, prosecutors agreed to the dismissal of felony charges of possessing a machine gun (switch) and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Gaines pled guilty in October to one felony count of riot. His 12-month sentence was stayed by Judge Kerry Meyer.

The plea deal was offered and approved, and the prison sentence was stayed DESPITE the fact that Gaines had another open case on a felony charge related to a Maplewood drive-by shooting last summer during which over 40 rounds were fired. The suspect vehicle containing Gaines and two other co-defendants fled from police and ended up crashing in the city of St. Anthony triggering a mid-afternoon manhunt. The three suspects were captured, and police recovered four guns that had been discarded around the neighborhood by the suspects — two of them had been modified with “switches” to fire full-auto. That case is still pending.

LESS THAN 90 DAYS after being fake sentenced in the precinct gunfire barrage, Gaines was charged in December in a new case with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Gaines remains in custody on $200,000 bail in that case.
