Child dies in downtown Minneapolis shooting Friday night
By Crime Watch MN, April 16, 2022
A 10-year-old boy died as a result of a gunshot wound late Friday night in downtown Minneapolis.
We reported that police were dispatched to 314 Hennepin Avenue about 11:40 p.m. on a report of a shooting. Police dispatch audio indicated at the time that the victim was a juvenile.
Further dispatch audio by responders stated that EMS was going to “load and go” with the child to the hospital. That generally means the patient’s injuries are very urgent. Responders stated that the child had been shot in the chest and that CPR was being performed on the way to the hospital.
The Minneapolis Police Department released a statement early Saturday morning stating that the 10-year-old boy later died at the hospital.
The MPD statement said that the child had been alone in the apartment with another juvenile family member at the time of the shooting and stated that homicide detectives had begun an investigation. No further circumstantial details were provided.
The Hennepin County Medical examiner will be responsible for releasing the name of the child who died in the incident.
The apartment building is a multi-unit complex owned by the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA).
