A St. Paul woman is facing several felony charges following a shots-fired incident in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

Nicole Marie Seals, 31, has been charged with three counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

We posted about 2:38 a.m. Saturday that police were dispatched to a report of a woman firing shots near the 19 Bar at 19 West 15th Street.

Several officers quickly arrived on scene and detained the suspect after what sounded like a brief struggle over dispatch. A police help call was momentarily toned by the dispatcher at the time.

Charges say Seals approached three females who were hanging around outside an apartment building near 15th and Nicollet Avenue and then became upset when the females stated they didn’t have keys to get into the building.

Seals began to yell at the females and pulled out a gun and fired three shots into the air.

The victims yelled at Seals to stop shooting, and Seals then fired at the ground two or three more times. The victims told police they ran in separate directions in fear for their lives. Seals chased one victim down the street, continuing to shoot at her; the victim hid between two vehicles.

Officers located Seals on Nicollet Avenue, where she ran from officers when they attempted to handcuff her. Seals tripped and was placed into custody. Officers searched the area and found a black Taurus Millennium handgun underneath a vehicle near 15th and Nicollet. The handgun came back as “stolen.” It could later be observed on Milestone camera footage that Seals hid the handgun. Officers also located several discarded cartridges in the location of the shooting.

During a subsequent search of Seals’ purse, which was located in the vehicle where officers initially found her, officers located a sandwich bag containing a white powdery substance. The substance field tested positive for fentanyl, which is a Schedule II controlled substance and had a weight of 4.6 grams.

Seals was booked into custody at Hennepin County Jail on probable cause weapons, first-degree assault and narcotics. Seals was formally charged with the counts listed above on Tuesday.

Records show Seals posted a $100,000 bond late Tuesday night and was released from custody. Seals was scheduled to make her first court appearance on the charges Wednesday, June 29 at 1:30 p.m.
