Victim of a firework attack at the University of Minnesota campus

By Crime Watch MN, Nov. 1, 2022

WARNING: Graphic photos of injuries

A second victim of the weekend firework attacks and assaults on and around the University of Minnesota campus and Dinkytown area has come forward to us with photos of their injuries.

The young woman with serious injuries sent photos and this message:

“I too have multiple wounds and burns from the attack at Sigma Chi UMN. I spent 8 hours in the ER where pieces of debris had to be cut out of my wounds. I am sick that the University is not giving this incident the attention it deserves.”

The victim followed up with another message after we had some questions:

“I was not told the degree of burns just that my injuries were caused by deep fragments and chemical burns. My injuries stretch from my ankles up to my lower back, and also my left arm. I have the big wounds pictured but also lots of small chemical burn marks that have appeared since those initial intake photos were taken due to the residue that sat on my skin. This happened at Sigma Chi Fraternity around 12:15am on Sunday morning 10/30/2022. A firework was thrown onto the outdoor patio from the street. An ambulance was called for me but I have not been contacted again by the police since my original report on the scene and the university has not contacted me at all.”

We posted photos and information overnight about another young woman who was injured and received second-degree burns in one of the numerous attacks.

We reported in real-time on Twitter about the firework attacks and assaults that spanned Friday and Saturday nights on frat row (1600–1700 University Ave SE), and in the Dinkytown area and other areas around the U of M. And there was at least one more firework throwing incident reported in Dinkytown Monday night.

In the midst of the late Friday/early Saturday morning attacks, an officer relayed to dispatch that a witness told them that the mob of attackers had threatened to assault or kill people at the fraternities. Audio of that exchange: https://voca.ro/1a9bOUShsXqY

Several dispatches described the perpetrators as Somali males.

Video also surfaced on Monday of one of the weekend attacks on a fraternity where one participant can also be seen wielding a machete before fireworks are thrown.

As we stated in our post early this morning, officials at the University of Minnesota have yet to come forward and comment on or condemn these terroristic acts.
